About
Eliza Siegler is a French-American artist born in New York City. She studied Fine Arts at Parsons in Paris, and at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York then continued to focus on painting and 3D object making as a student at the Rietveld Academie in the Netherlands. At the l'École d'Art d'Avignon Eliza created murals, painted, and made large-scale installations. She graduated with highest honors and obtained her DNSEP avec les félicitations du jury in 1997. The following year in 1998 she received a grant from the French Ministry of Culture. Eliza has taught Art, contemporary French Cultural Studies, and foreign languages in France and the United States. She has been traveling and exhibiting her mixed-media paintings, drawings and objects internationally since 1988. Between 2020 and 2025, Eliza created a series of paintings exploring the perception of color in context and the accumulation of markings over time.
Artist Statement
A sense of spaciousness, and attention to detail were important to me. I chose painting as my primary medium complemented by drawing from the still life and work with music, and photography. As a Native New Yorker, I have an appreciation for global art history as well as the art I saw in the streets growing up. Multicultural experiences are part of my daily experience as is the rhythm of sunrise, heartbeats, waves, and the cycle of seasons. My artistic approach has grown from this fundamental natural context, and the appreciation of the uniqueness of each unique marking, color and brushstroke.
